Our homeschool routine is roughly like this every week, sometimes we switch our mornings to evenings if we have things to do.
So first our oldest cher does her schooling at her own pace with her school, she attends James Madison high school which is a great online school. so she does not follow the everyday schedule like the younger ones.
Then we have a 6th grader, 5th grader,2nd grader and kindergarten. The 3 boys have a regular routine which is or goes something like this.
from monday to thursday-
10-10.30am we do math on the computer ( we use a curriculum thats called Time4learning )
10.30-11am we do more math but it is written math ( we use mathusee for that )
11am-11.45 we do language arts which is on the computer too.( again we use our curriculum)
11.45-12.15pm the kids will stop for lunch and a break
12.15pm-12.45 the kids will do science again on the computer.
12.45-1.20pm the kids will do social studies
1.20-2pm they will do reading and do some hand writing. this is our own creative writing and we read books according to grade level or higher.
History is not included in the program we use so i go according to there grade level and get all the resources from the library or internet, we do own some history grade level books, but the research keeps it exciting and interesting for the kids. We also do our own health lessons which is probably about 30 mins a week, as far for physical activity we live on a farm so they get enough of that :-)
We also do field trips and after that the kids will have to write about what they saw and give proper description on what the learnt.
We also will do bible readings but that is usually after dinner with daddy, and that is about 15 min each night each child takes turns each day.
Friday is our lazy day where we will do crafts or a science experiment if it is required, we do include reading which that is only 20min so its not that much.
Saturday is our review day, where the kids will do a re-cap of what they have done all week, and do there quiz and test from the things they have learned all week,.
The curriculum i use have each childs portfolio which all i have to do is show it to the board of education, it shows what work they have done and what they are learning and there grade. For the history and health i have to do my own portfolio which is pretty simple as long as they show there work.
Sunday is optional, sometimes they like to do extra work but sunday is utterly up to them what they want to do.
As for kindergarten, she only does about 2 hrs a day, then its crafts and drawing and everything else.
Currently the kids also take spanish lessons which is another computer program we use, we also use advantage and jumpstart programs for when they want to play games on the computer, each child has there own computer station, and know what work to do every day. it makes life easy and we all like our system, and whats even better i can leave hubby in charge of it too ;-p
As far as hobbies, we are pretty easy going, i have one who likes to cook, one who loves to build, another who likes to draw, they all have there own things they like to do and we work around everyones needs. its not that hard.
Homeschooling has been an amazing adventure for us all, at first i taught i was crazy to do this, but i saw all the benefits of how one of my kids who has ADHD was finally learning and showing interest. Homeschool is not for everyone but it has been a blessing for us and our lives and wouldnt change it for the world.
Our children still have a social life and interact with kids just like they would do in school, the only difference is its done in a different way.
Hope i made sense1
God bless you
